OPPORTUNITIES IN LIFE

How many times have you heard people lamenting on how society has no opportunities any more? Or how they need to leave their country and search for opportunities elsewhere? Many people wish to start businesses but they never see an opportunity that can accommodate what they imagine a business to be. But where is the truth in all these lamentations? Can a country be void of opportunities? I do not think so.
Perhaps we need to enlighten ourselves about what exactly is meant by opportunities. Most of the people who believe that our society has suddenly run out of opportunities, may not say more about what they call opportunities. Opportunities stem from ideas. These ideas are products of our minds and are influenced by our socialization, our physical environment, our associations and largely by the books or media content that we expose ourselves to. The human mind never stops to have ideas since the thought process is a continuous one. What matters is what one is thinking about: Is it progressive or retrogressive. Another powerful tool that is ‘immortal’ in human beings is the power of imagination. Imagination creates wonderful ideas. In fact, most of the technological advancements we see today, are a product of wild imaginations.
So, now that we know that we have endless flow of ideas, how do opportunities come about? Simple, one only needs to give an idea a commercial thought for it to become an opportunity. When you visualize who the market/consumers/users/beneficiaries of your idea are, you begin to realize it is no longer just an idea, but an opportunity. When you wish to start that business, what idea do you have? Can you conceptualize a market for that idea? Before you begin looking at how much it will cost to bring your idea to fruition, you already have an opportunity.
In a nutshell, the only thing that makes us feel as though we have no opportunities, is that we leave our ideas at the idea stage. We hope that a miracle of some sort will make them work. When that fails, we conclude that our country has no opportunities. Opportunities do not just happen, they are made to happen. The process of making the opportunities is the same the world over. If you do not see them here, what guarantee do you have that you will see them across the border? Look no further. Do not leave your ideas half baked. Give them serious thought. Dare to imagine. Give your imagination some commercial touch and there you have an opportunity.
There is need for you to panel-beat your idea and convert it into an opportunity. Once this is achieved, the next question which touches on resources will be easier to answer. Great ventures begin with ideas and not resources. That is why we have many people with good money but lack the ability to give the money a multiplier effect, simply because they do not see an opportunity. Remember, success is progressive and has to start from somewhere.
Remember, even as you complain about lack of opportunities, we still hear of new entrants in the millionaires club, of course with clean and authentic fresh ideas. While you think of looking for opportunities elsewhere, convince yourself that you have done the best with your current ideas. Opportunities never disappear, not even during trying moments. In fact, they are in abundance during difficult moments. When a society has problems, those who can see the opportunity to solve the problems, swim in greatness. It all starts and ends with you, regardless of where you are or your current financial situation. Be wise.
